Kinsman, Ohio - Agnes M. Boyd, age 91, founder of Boyd';s Kinsman Home, died on Sunday, January 27, 2008. In 1971, Agnes and her late husband, E. Carl Boyd Jr., opened Boyd's Home, a residential facility for adults with mental retardation, the first of its kind. Carl and Agnes dedicated their lives to meeting all needs of these special individuals, serving at the home day and night. With its home-like atmosphere and all the love they shared, they soon became known as "Mom and Pop" to all. There are currently 43 residents, as well as 37 other residents who previously lived at Boyd's, who had the privilege of being her "sons and daughters". Agnes was born on July 28, 1916, the daughter of Erastus and Alta Millikin, of Johnston. She was a 1934 graduate of Johnston High School, and has been a lifelong area resident. A member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church, the Johnston Literary Club, and the former Kinsman Business and Professional Women, where she was past president and the Ohio Business and Professional Women, where she was past director. She was also a member of the Orangeville Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered her time in the community. Agnes loved the outdoors, she enjoyed bowling, baking (especially bread), being with the residents of Boyd's, and spending time with her family. Agnes will be remembered for her positive attitude, giving spirit, and upbeat personality. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, her beloved family, the Boyd's Home staff and residents and many community members. She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, a son Gary "G.B"; Boyd and her husband of forty-five years E. Carl Boyd, whom she married on September 27, 1936. Survivors include her son Dale M. Boyd; her daughter, Carlene E. and husband Mike Jones all of Kinsman, Ohio; three grandchildren, Brian (Angie) Jones of Iowa, Sherry (Jeff) Rinck of Cortland, Ohio, and Millie Williams of Kinsman, Ohio; five great grandchildren, Gretchen and Bradley Jones of Iowa, Caleb and Ellie Rinck of Cortland, Ohio and Sabrina Williams of Kinsman, Ohio; as well as her extended family at Boyd's Home. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at 2:00P.M. at the Kinsman Presbyterian Church, 6383 Church Street, Kinsman, Ohio with Rev. Larry A. Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna, Ohio. Arrangements handled by Baumgardner Funeral Home.
