Belva S. Evans

Cortland, Ohio - Belva S. Evans, age 88, died on Friday, January 27, 2012, after a short illness. She was born on April 6, 1923 at home in Gustavus, Ohio a twin daughter of Mae Hattie (Lane) and Thad Thompson. She was a 1941 graduate of Gustavus High School and earned a degree in education from Kent State University. Mrs. Evans taught both first and second grades at Gustavus Schools for over twenty years. On May 2, 1942, she married David Karl Evans. She was a lifelong member of the Gustavus Federated Church and belonged to the Gustavus Mother's Club. She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint, which she loved sharing with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-seven years, David K. Evans; three sisters, Iva Dorson, Ledia Brainard and Laura Orr and three brothers, Malcolm "Mac" Gibbs, Homer Thompson and Earl Thompson. Survivors include her daughter, Loreen L. (Chip) Christ of Fort Worth, Texas; four sons, Richard K. (Donna) Evans of Longview, Texas, Randall L. (Alice) Evans of Plano, Texas, Dennis T. (Marcia) Evans of Kent, Ohio and Terrence D. (Alison) Evans of Cortland, Ohio; her twin sister, Beula M. Shearer; seven grandchildren, Chris, Monica, Katie, Mathew, Evan, Thad and Austin and three great grandchildren, Ethan, Alicann and Logan. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 11:00am at Gustavus Federated Church, 8850 State Route 193, Gustavus, Ohio, with Rev. Karl Bucey officiating. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio.
