Betty Jean Melvin

Kinsman, Ohio - Betty Jean Melvin, age 79, a lifelong resident of Kinsman, Ohio, died on December 25, 2005 at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville, Pennsylvania. She was born on October 9, 1926 in Kinsman, Ohio to Ross and Eva (Chapman) Mathews. Mrs. Melvin was a 1946 graduate of Sharon High School. She worked as a press operator for Target Stamped Products of Kinsman for twenty years, retiring in 1992. Mrs. Melvin was a member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed playing cards, flower gardening, playing the slot machines, but most of all spending time with her grand and great grand children. She married L. Laverne Melvin on November 7, 1947. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, G. Alfred and Donald Mathews and two sisters, Alice Burns and Ruth Banning. Along with her husband, Mrs. Melvin is survived by her five children, daughter Bonnie B. (Robert) McDowall of Farmdale, Ohio, son, Robert L. (Cheryl) Melvin of Kinsman, son, Donald E. (Mary Kay) Melvin of Hubbard, Ohio, son, John H. Melvin of Orwell, Ohio, daughter, Cindy M. (Bruce) Ault of Williamsfield, Ohio; sister Frances Hall of Kinsman, sister in Law Marjorie Mathews of Taylor, Texas and sister in law Evelyn Mathews of Kinsman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. Larry A. Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
