Cecil T. Fobes, age 86, of Williamsfield, OH, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, OH. He was born June 22, 1923, in Williamsfield, OH, the son of Ray R. and Wavie (Tanner) Fobes. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Fobes was employed as an auto mechanic for many years for several local garages in Andover. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army from March 10, 1943 until he was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant on Jan. 10, 1949. He served in the Phillipines, on the island of New Guinea, and also in Germany at the Oberpfaffenhofen AF Depot. Mr. Fobes enjoyed working with his hands fixing things, mowing, and birdwatching. Mr. Fobes met his wife, Anna (Wieland) Fobes, in Germany and married her there on Oct. 9, 1948. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1984. Also preceding him in death are his parents; three brothers, Robert, Morris, and Phillip Fobes; and one sister, Doris Simons. He was survived by his son, Ray (Judy) Fobes of Cortland,OH; his daughter, Ramona (Will) Hruska of Jefferson, OH; his six grandchildren, Jon (Dawn) Fobes, Jennifer and Michael Fobes, Melissa (Will) Brangan, and Chris and Kelsey Hruska; six great grandchildren, Jonathan, Robbie, Aimee, David, Brennan, and Timmy; and two sisters, Wava Abbuhl of Williamsfield, OH, and Janet Jones of Kinsman,OH. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH. Burial will follow in Williamsfield Center Cemetery.
