Kinsman, Ohio-Charles Lee McGill, Sr., age 80, died on Monday, November 16, 2009 at Greenville, UPMC Hospital. He was born on March 11, 1929 in Hubbard, Ohio, the son of Mary Virginia (Marshall) McGill and Orland Edward McGill. A member of the 1947 Kinsman High School Class, Charlie served in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict. In 1958, Charlie started the McGill Septic Tank Company and was currently serving as the company's president. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he was the first altar server and helped with the construction of the current church building. Charlie was a member of the Harry Lees American Legion Post No. 506 of Kinsman, and was a member of the National Precast Association. A believer in giving people a second chance in life, Charlie was a very generous person. He supported the local charities and was there to lend a helping hand for whoever and whenever it was needed. Charlie had a great ability to tell stories and put smiles on faces even if you were feeling down and out. He often was seen by others as a father figure and made a difference in many people's lives. Charlie was known to take in stray dogs and had numerous dogs around him from a young age. He enjoyed going to flea markets, gardening, spending time on his bulldozer and fishing. On April 11, 1954 he married Patricia Ann Knepper. She precedes him in death along with his parents, a grandson, Kevin James McGill and three brothers, Joseph McGill, Orland (Ed) McGill and Frank McGill. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. (Bib) McElhinny and M. Christine McGill both of Kinsman, Ohio; two sons, Charles L. McGill, Jr. of Kinsman, Ohio and James R. McGill of Jamestown, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Jessica, Michael and James McElhinny, Jr. and Adam McGill; two brothers, John M. McGill of Warren, Ohio and Roy J. (Mary) McGill of Kinsman, Ohio; longtime companion, Kathy Flowers and many friend's and neighbors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10:00am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 6397 State Route 87, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 19th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio.
