Vienna, Ohio - Clarence N. Thompson, age 92, died on Saturday, May 19, 2007. He was born on December 26, 1914, in Pierpont, Ohio, to Ralph W. and Mabel A. (Curtis) Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a 1934 graduate of Perry High School. Formerly of Farmdale, Ohio, Mr. Thompson served in the United States Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific and Philippine Theaters. He received three bronze stars for his efforts. Mr. Thompson was an auto mechanic for twenty years and then worked for Warren City Schools for 27 years in both bus and building maintenance, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows Club of Perry, Ohio, Trumbull County Farm Bureau, and a longtime member of the Vienna Grange. He was a troop leader for Boy Scout Troop 81 in Vienna for many years. Mr Thompson enjoyed fishing, gardening, attending lapidary shows and making jewelry. He is preceded in death by his wife of almost sixty three years, Ruth E. Garlock, whom he married on November 23, 1943. She died on April 25, 2006. Others that preceded him are his parents; a daughter, Mary Lee Shook; a great granddaughter, Madison Shook; an infant brother, Ralph W. Thompson Jr; and brothers Donald G. Thompson and Carlyle James Thompson. Survivors include a daughter, Carol R. Beatty of Vienna, Ohio; sons, Ronald C. and wife Karen Thompson; and Robert N. and wife Jan Thompson of Vienna, Ohio; son-in-laws, David Shook of West Farmington, Ohio, and Greg Beatty of Warren, Ohio; sisters, Dorothy M. and husband Howard Jewell of Warren, Ohio, and Marjorie J. Mathews of Tyler, Texas; a brother Charles G. and wife Linda Thompson of Marietta, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Nancy Thompson, of Farmdale, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Bret Shook, Lance and wife Alyson Shook, Jessica and husband Brett Starcher, Clayton Beatty, Carolyn Thompson, Daphne and husband Bryan Zeigler, Robert J. Thompson and Andrea Thompson; and great grandsons, William Shook and Brett Starcher Jr. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio with Rev. Bruce McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Vienna Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
