Cody K. Betts

Howland, Ohio- Cody Kooper Betts, age 37, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 21, 2011, at his home, with his family by his side. He was born on March 3, 1973, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, the son of Sherry Lou (McCartney) and Thomas Allen Betts. Cody was a 1991 graduate of Joseph Badger High School, a 1997 graduate of Youngstown State University, with a Bachelor in Education and a 2000 graduate of Ashland University with a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction. Cody was a teacher and a basketball coach at Lakeview High School for seven years. In 2003 Cody began his teaching career at Joseph Badger School District as well as being the Head Coach for Joseph Badger�s Boys Varsity Team. Cody coached basketball for Hubbard High School, Lakeview High School and for Badger High School. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed coaching and playing sports himself. On July 28, 2001 he married Jennifer Jean Petrich. Cody was a member of the Vernon United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ruth (Hines) and Lee Betts and maternal grandfather, Lewis S. McCartney. Survivors include his wife of nine years, Jennifer J. Betts of Howland, Ohio; a daughter, Keily J. Betts; a son Kooper A. Betts, both at home; his parents, Sherry and Tom Betts of Kinsman, Ohio; a sister, Carrie J. Betts of Kinsman, Ohio; a brother, Josh Z. (Samantha) Betts of Lancaster, Ohio; maternal grandmother, Evelyn McCartney of Kinsman, Ohio and three nephews Carson, Nathaniel and Gabriel. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:00am at Rock of Grace Family Ministries, 6745 State Route 5, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. John Benigas officiating. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 24th from Noon until 3:00pm and from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral Home 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio.
