Darl C. Lipps

Darl Curtis Lipps, 70, of Longwood ,Florida, passed away February 7, 2017, from complications of pneumonia. Darl, was born May 21, 1946, in Conneaut, OH, the son of Lester and Mae (Petrie) Lipps of Wayne, OH. Darl, a 1963 graduate of Pymatuning Valley High School, played basketball 4 years on an outstanding Laker team and ran cross country. From an early age he worked at many local farms. During college summers he worked at Pymatuning State Park and as a salesman for Roaming Rock Shores Development. Darl received his B.A. degree in Business from Kent State University in 1968. His first employment was in management at Goodyear in Akron before enlisting in the Air Force in 1969. While serving at Scott Air Force Base he earned a special commendation for being the 1st non-commissioned officer to earn an MBA from Southern Illinois University while serving full time at Scott AFB. He was awarded the Airman of the Month. Darl went on to be Vice President of Bankers Trust and was active in the Optimist Club in Belleville, IL. before relocating to Longwood, FL where he was self employed as a real estate broker and property manager. He enjoyed golf, motorcycles, cars, and all sports; and was an avid Orlando Magic fan. He attended the Aloma United Methodist Church in Winter Park. He is survived by his son, David (Dee) Lipps of Chandler, AZ, his special loved one, Anita Johnson of Altamonte Springs, FL, his cat, Gizmo; a brother, Duane (Jeanne) Lipps of Concord, OH, sister, Nadine (Tom) Dubowski of North Olmsted, OH, sister, Lorraine (Dr. Harlan) Waid of Jefferson, OH, nephew,Todd (Lilia) Lipps of Parma, OH, nieces, Megan (Rev. Nathan) Howe of Berea, OH, Mallory (Nathan) Smith of Jefferson, OH, Margot Waid of Falls Church, VA, Kecia Ruyan of Cincinnati, OH, 3 great-nephews, and 1 great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Marlea. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 12:00 Noon at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery, Wayne township,OH. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. An online guestbook is available at www.baumgardnerfuneralhomes.com.
