Kinsman, Ohio – Daryl A. Maseck, age 88, died on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He was born on 6th of August, 1925 in Kinsman, Ohio, a son of Grace Mary (Durr) and Dr. Frank Wenceslaus Maseck. He attended Kinsman Elementary and High Schools and served as class president for both his junior and senior years, graduating in 1943. Mr. Maseck served in the Army during World War II and was a Staff Sergeant in fire direction for heavy artillery and earned the battle star for the Okinawa Campaign. He attended The Ohio State University, graduating with a degree in Structural Engineering and Architecture and worked as a structural engineer for the State of California in Sacramento. He did the structural design of a group of seven buildings at Puerta la Cruz on the Mexican border. Later he earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Sacramento State College and his Master’s thesis was published in Canada by the Journal of Orthomolecular Psychiatry. He enjoyed playing stringed musical instruments and as a college student once played a duet with him on the banjo and Carl Sandberg on the guitar. Mr. Maseck returned to Kinsman and continued the operation of The Kinsman Gift Shop, which his mother established in 1939. He was a founding member of the Kinsman Historical Society. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ardis Mae Maseck and a brother, Harvey Maseck. Survivors include Nieces Valerie M. (Michael) Preston of Raleigh, North Carolina, Denise H. (Jens) Goebel and Anne Marie (Brian) Price both of Cincinnati, Ohio; a nephew, Brian A. (Yvette) Maseck of Powell, Ohio; sister-in-law, Brigitte Maseck of Bristolville, Ohio and cousins, Rev. James (Robin) Farinet of Beavercreek, Ohio and Mary (John) Bolthuis of Alpharetta, Georgia. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 08, 2014, at 1:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Private burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery.
