Andover, Ohio - David E. Brown, Jr., age 70, died after an extended illness on Monday, February 27, 2017 in Andover, Ohio. He was born on July 23, 1946 in Fayetteville, West Virginia, a son of Alice Joyce (Gray) and David Ellis Brown, Sr. Dave was a 1964 graduate of Fayetteville High School. He attended West Virginia Tech, Kent State University, Ohio University and earned his Bachelors Degree from the West Virginia University. On July 30, 1983 he married Myra Lee Smith. Dave has been a member of Law Enforcement since he graduated from high school. He served with the Fayette County and Ashtabula County Sheriff Department, retiring after twenty-six years in 1993. Dave was appointed GOP Chair in 1967, was elected to the Andover Village Council and was elected twice as Andover's Mayor. He taught as a full time substitute at different Ashtabula County school after retiring until 1998. For over twelve years Dave was Chief of Security for Don King Productions of Orwell and NYC. Dave served as Deputy Treasurer for Robert Harvey, was on the Andover Civic Development, was Past President of the Andover Rotary Club and served as a Representative for District 7. He founded the Ashtabula County DARE program and was State Education Chair of the DARE program. Dave was awarded by the Governor of Ohio and the Ohio State Patrolman office an award for safety. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Myra L. Brown of Andover, Ohio; two sons, Jay W. (Michelle) Riser of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Scott A. (Sarah) Brown of Winfield, West Virginia; a brother, Thomas W. (Mary Stuart) Brown of Louisville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, Chase, Noelle, Gannon and Maddie; two nieces, Mary Stuart (Puffin) Travers and Kim Gray; two nephews Mark and Skip Gray Jr. and three cousins, Skip (Nancy) Gray of Ashtabula, Ohio, Cork (Pat) Gray of Nicholasville, Kentucky and Greg (Mick Bailey) Gray of Charleston, West Virginia. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00pm at Andover First United Methodist Church, 181 South Main Street, Andover, Ohio. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover, Ohio. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of services.
