Cortland, Ohio - David Karl Evans, age 87, died on February 17, 2010, in Warren, Ohio. He was born on May 2, 1922 in Wayne, Ohio, the son of Hazel M. (Eastlake) and William Karl Evans. Mr. Evans was a 1940 graduate of Gustavus High School and was a longtime Gustavus resident. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the 381st Bomb Squadron, a division of the 8th Army Air Corps. His B-17 bomber unit was one of very few that completed its 35 missions over Germany. On May 2, 1942, Mr. Evans married Belva S. Thompson. He was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church, the former Burdette Edgar Totten Gustavus V.F.W. Post No. 6263, the former Gustavus Grange, and the Cortland Moose Lodge No. 1012. Mr. Evans enjoyed traveling and he collected clocks. Preceding Mr. Evans in death are his parents; a sister, Vergie Elliott and a brother, Edward Evans. Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Belva S. Evans of Cortland, Ohio; a daughter, Lori L. (Chip) Christ of Fort Worth, Texas; four sons, Richard K. (Donna) Evans of Longview, Texas, Randall L. (Alice) Evans of Plano, Texas, Dennis T. (Marcia) Evans of Kent, Ohio and Terrence D. (Alison) Evans of Cortland, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Chris, Monica, Katie, Mathew, Evan, Thad and Austin; three great grandchildren, Ethan, Alicann and Logan and a brother, Gerald (Jane) Evans of Cincinnati, Ohio. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 11:00am at Gustavus Federated Church, 8850 State Route 193, Gustavus, Ohio with Rev. Karl Bucey officiating. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 21st from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral Home 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio.
