David W. "Swifty" Swift, age 82, of Pierpont, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus permanently on Monday, October 20, 2014. He was born February 21, 1932, in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of Charles Swift and Jennie (Hudson) Swift Petrie. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Swift was a 1951 graduate of Pierpont High School. He was employed by Elkem Metals, the former Union Carbide, for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He also owned and operated a family farm for many years. Folllowing his retirement Mr. Swift helped his son, Lee, on his dairy farm. He was a member of the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, where he married his wife, Rogene M. (Speer) on August 16, 1953; and where he served as an Elder. Mr. Swift enjoyed mowing and keeping his lawn nice. He is survived by his wife, Rogene M. Swift, of Pierpont; his two daughters, Marilyn (Carl) Williams of Pierpont, and Jeannie (Al) Wilgus of Mexico; his two sons, Dan (Linda) Swift and Lee (Liz) Swift, both of Pierpont; his 16 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; and his sister, Barbara Cooper of Pierpont. He is preceded in death by his father; his mother; his step father, William Petrie; his two brothers, Carl Swift and Richard Petrie; and an infant sister, Leah Swift. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at 12:30 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, Cemetery Rd., Pierpont, OH,with Pastor Robert Gears officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family.
