Delos F. Phelps, age 86, of Williamsfield, Ohio, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 5, 1922, in Williamsfield, Ohio, the son of John S. and Cora (Spellman) Phelps. A lifetime Williamsfield resident, Mr. Phelps was employed by Barrett's Garage in Williamsfield and also Namco Control in Jefferson for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Panama. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Andover; the Laker Ruritan Club; and he volunteered with Country Neighbor for many years. He also started the Williamsfield wheelchair basketball team; and volunteered for years mowing the Little League baseball fields at the Williamsfield Community Center. His hobbies included bird watching, crafting, and he enjoyed his grandchildren. Mr. Phelps is survived by his wife, Helen M. (Penfield) Phelps, whom he married Feb. 1, 1943, of Williamsfield; two daughters, Barbara (Ronald) Kellar of Middleburg, FL, and Susan (Raymond) Drnek of Williamsfield; his adopted daughter, Loretta Frankito Davis of Sagamore Hills, OH; brother, Hallie Phelps of Lorain, OH; sister, Betty Benton of Orwell, OH; brother, Leroy Phelps of Girard, PA; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents; an infant son; one grandson, Jerry Horton, Jr.; one sister, Clarabel McMillen; and three brothers, Howard, Ellsworth, and Donovan Phelps. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 5th from 6 to 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
