Donald J. Schmidt

Donald J. Schmidt, Sr., age 68, of Greenville, PA, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 19, 2017, at his home. He was born January 19, 1949, in Newark, NJ, a son of John and Dorothea (Bestle) Schmidt. A 1967 graduate of Brick High School in Newark, NJ, Mr. Schmidt went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ashland University in Ashland,OH, in 1971. He married Diane (Keeler) on January 30, 1971. Mr. Schmidt was a school teacher having taught Chemistry and Physics at Jefferson High School, Joseph Badger High School, John F. Kennedy High School, and most recently at Pymatuning Valley High School. As a lifelong teacher he inspired many, not only in the classroom but in life. He was a member of the Western Reserve Carriage Driving Association; and a former member of the Ohio Welsh Pony Association. He was passionate about his family and driving his Welsh ponies; and he enjoyed working on his farm. Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane Schmidt, of Greenville, PA; his son, Donald J. (Jaime) Schmidt, Jr., and grandchildren, Nathaniel and Jacob, of Mustang, Oklahoma; his daughter, Deborah D. (Michael) Harris, and grandchildren, Mackenzie, Devin, and Matthew, of Bentonville, Arkansas; his daughter, Jennifer D. (Imre) Orosz, and grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, and Katherine, of Burbank,OH; and his brother, Gary (Terry) Schmidt of Lititz, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,OH. Cremation will follow services. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
