Doris Mae Root

Doris M. Root, age 87, of Andover, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Andover Village Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 3, 1928, in Richmond Township, Ohio, a daughter of Andrew L. and Margaret R. (Heath) Hitchcock. A 1947 graduate of Andover High School, Mrs. Root was a lifelong area resident. She was employed as a housekeeper for the Ohio State Park System. She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church and the Richmond Ladies Aide Society. Mrs. Root enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, babysitting them, and attending their sporting events. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and hosting Sunday dinners for her family; and she was always generous with her time. Mrs. Root married Donald P. Root on September 19, 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 14, 2007. She is also preceded by her parents and two brothers, Gordon and Martin Hitchcock. She is survived by her son, Jack P. (Christine) Root of Andover,Ohio; her daughter, Denise M. (Thomas) Stasiak of Andover, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jason, Dee Dee, Aaron, Tom, Eric, April, and Nick; seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Andrew, Maggie, Jack, Catherine, Ben, and Grant; and two sisters, Margery Brown and Ruth Spencer, both of Richmond Township, Ohio. Private services will be held for the family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church.
