Dorothea L. Childs

Dorothea L. Childs, 86 years old, of Orwell, Ohio, died on Sunday, April 4, 2004, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, Ohio. Dorothea was born on January 4, 1918, in Williamsfield, Ohio, to the late Frank Furber and the late Lucy (Hayford) Furber. A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Childs was a 1936 graduate of Williamsfield High School. She was an assembly line worker for Reliance Electric of Ashtabula for over 30 years. Mrs. Childs was a member of the Electrical Workers Union. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Richmond, Ohio. She enjoyed bowling, camping, crafts, especially ceramics and macrame. She was known to be able to fix just about anything around the house and enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren. Mrs. Childs married Fred H. Childs on May 25, 1946. He died on January 26, 2001. She is survived by her son, Ronald L. Childs of Ashtabula, OH; her three daughters, Wilma J. Waldvogel of York, NC; Judy A. Jackson of Raleigh, NC; and Joan M. Shoenberger of Andover, OH; her two sisters, Bunny Sneary of Ashtabula, OH; and Lee Jana of Hickory, NC; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at 11:00a.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio, with Pastor Edward J. Pickard officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Cherry Valley Cemetery. No calling hours will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or the Dorset Baptist Church.
