Dorothy H. Drake

Andover, OH-- Dorothy H. Drake, age 94, of Andover, OH, died Saturday, September 10, 2016, at UPMC Hospital in Farrell, PA. She was born May 3,1922, in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of John A. and Leonora A. (Egler) Battung. Formerly of Willowick, Ohio, Mrs. Drake had been a resident of Andover since 1974. She served overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II as a psychiatric nurse. Mrs. Drake then married Walter John Drake, Sr., on May 4, 1946. They owned and operated “Drake’s Hardware" in Willoughby, OH, for many years. Mrs. Drake was a long time member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Andover, where she belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society, Mission Society, and choir. She also served as a lector,Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, and served on parish council. Mrs. Drake had also been a member of the American Legion. She is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy A. (Ed) Krasnicki of East Aurora, NY, and Suzanne M. (Basil) Zitelli of Pittsburgh, PA; her four sons, Walter J. (Judy) Drake of Fairport, NY, Robert D. (Fran) Drake of Transfer, PA, James L. (Lea) Drake of Seville, OH, and Jeffery A. (Kathy) Drake of Monroe Falls,OH; 14 Grandchildren, Matt, Dan, Ben, Anne, Josh, Amelia, Aaron, Nate, Nora, Kate, Audra, Erin, Ian, and Erin; and 11 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter John Drake on June 24, 1979; two Great Grandsons, Atticus and Sebastian Drake; two brothers, John A. and Raymond C. Battung; and one sister, Alberta C. Schwalm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 481 S. Main St., Andover, OH, with Rev. Jeffrey Stealey officiating. Burial will follow in Simons Cemetery, Williamsfield, OH. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, September 14th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH.
