Burghill, Ohio - Dorothy Elizabeth Gibson, age 87, died on Monday, December 3, 2018, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warrren, OH, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 26, 1931 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Helen (Lanko) Mundziak and Frank Mundziak. Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of New Castle High School where she led the band as drum majorette, and then she graduated from cosmetology school. While in New Castle she played violin in the New Castle Symphony Orchestra. On September 2, 1950 she married her lifetime sweetheart from the age of 16, Robert Arthur Gibson. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kinsman and she volunteered with the Buckeye Riders 4-H Horse Club along with her husband, Art. Dorothy was an incredible cook and baker; and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening. She was an avid bird watcher and known by family as "the bird lady of Burghill." Dorothy and Art's greatest joy was being second parents to their grandchildren, Katie and Matt. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her step father, Joseph Strokey; her loving husband of fifty-three years, Art Gibson; her sister, Mary Cole and her brother, Joseph S. Mundziak. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen A. (Jim) Crouse Bacorn of Cortland, Ohio and Carol Lee (Brian) Palumbo of Burghill, Ohio; 3 grandchildren, Matthew R. (fiance, Shelly Loze) Weakley, Aubree Kate (Jeremy) Sherbourne, and Dustin E. Palumbo; 3 great grandchildren, Adelyn Rose Sherbourne, Joshua Sherbourne, and Sinopa Palumbo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 6397 State Route 87, Kinsman, Ohio with Rev. Michael A. Mikstay, CAPT. CHC USN Ret. officiating. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta, Ohio. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 6th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio.
