Earl D. Smith, age 94, of Austinburg, OH, died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Nov. 9, 1911 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Asa E. and Anna Lee (Passwater) Smith. Mr. Smith moved with his family to Lenox in 1926 and started high school there, and then graduated from Jefferson High School in 1930. The next year, after graduation, he worked as custodian of Lenox Federated Church and Lenox School. Mr. Smith was a long time Andover resident and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Andover and the General Electric Quarter Century Club. He retired in 1976 from the Andover Bulb Plant of G.E. after having worked there for 36 years. Earl enjoyed gardening and lawn flowers; he loved music and M&M's; and he enjoyed his many travels. He and Juanita M. (Krieg) were married on August 29, 1934, in Jefferson by the Rev. Baker. She preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1982. Also preceding him in death are his parents; son, Keith Wayne Smith, who died at the age of two days old; a daughter, Joanne E. Smith, on March 5, 2000; a brother, Herman Smith; and a sister, Geneva Gochneaur. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Emogene L. (Piper) Smith, of Austinburg, whom he married April 28, 1986; a step son, Walter Piper of Tionesta, PA; two step daughters, Arlene Kohta of Sheffield Township, OH, and Ellen Nystrom of Zephyrhills, FL; 6 Grandchildren; and 2 Great Grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio, with Rev. Peter Elencovf officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover. Calling hours will be Sunday, December 18th from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 207, Andover, OH 44003.
