Rev. Edith G. Sillaman, age 91, of Alliance,Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, Ohio. She was born on July 2,1920, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Turney E. and Ida L. (Flesher) Ryan. She received her credentials as a woman clergy and was a pioneer for women being recognized in pastoral ministry. She served from 1962 until 1988 as a minister for several churches in the East Ohio Conference. Those churches she served were the Newport Charge Methodist Churches, Denison Charge Methodist Churches, Mineral Ridge F.U.M.C., Union Valley F.U.M.C., Winfield F.U.M.C., Dover Faith F.U.M.C., Deerfield F.U.M.C., and West Mecca F.U.M.C. Rev. Sillaman enjoyed crocheting, needlework, and doing crossword puzzles. She also loved and was talented at playing the piano and organ. Rev. Sillaman married Rev. Don C. Sillaman, Sr. on July 3, 1937, and he died April 24, 2010. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Judith N. Sillaman; two brothers, Harry C. and C. Burton Ryan; and two sisters, M. Alice Lakin and Edna M. Danner. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah A. Sillaman of Orwell,OH; five sons, Don C. Sillaman, Jr. of Marietta, OH, Allen B. (Helen) Sillaman, Sr. of Dover, OH, Rev. Dennis W. (Lois) Sillaman of Canon City, CO, Timothy P. (Robin) Sillaman of Cincinnati,OH, and Allen B. Sillaman, Jr. of Poland,OH; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH. Calling hours will also be held on Sunday, July 10th from 2:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of West Austintown, 6749 Mahoning Ave., Austintown,OH 44515, with Dr. George Leonard Lee and Rev. Dennis W. Sillaman officiating. Private burial will take place in Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
