Espyville, Pennsylvania - Edith Mae Wirth, age 94, died peacefully at her sister's home in Urbanna, Virginia on November 12, 2008. She was born on August 14, 1914 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John J. and Florence (Braddock) Smith. Mrs. Wirth graduated from High School in Homestead, Pennsylvania. She then attended Beauty School and later became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Mrs. Wirth retired from nursing in 1974 after over thirty years of service at the Pennsylvania State Hospital. She was a member of the Espyville United Methodist Church, where she helped with the ladies with the church dinners and candy making. The matriarch of the family as she was known enjoyed baking and her coconut cream pies were legendary. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an avid reader. Mrs. Wirth is preceded in death by her first husband Lloyd O'Roark in 1969, and her second husband Bernard Smith who died in 1995. She is also preceded in death by two step-children, an infant brother and sister and a sister Lucille Hill. Survivors include her son, Dale E. (Kathy) O'Roark of Millersville, Maryland; three grandchildren, Cynthia, David and Kathleen; two sisters, Marietta Mowry of Urbanna, Virginia and Jean Gross of Munhall, Pennsylvania; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Noon, at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio, with Rev. Christine E. Rogan officiating. Burial will follow in Espyville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of services.
