Edward James Thompson

Kinsman, Ohio - Edward James Thompson, age 84, died on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness. He was born on August 21, 1932 in Kinsman, Ohio the son of Lillian Anna (Lintela) and Fred Cole Thompson. Ed was a 1950 graduate of Kinsman High School and studied Mechanical Engineering at Youngstown College. On October 25, 2003 he married his long time friend and companion, Ann Louise (Phillis) Hall. He worked for Wean Engineering of Warren, Ohio for twenty years, then worked fro Valley Vulcan Mold of Hubbard, Ohio and retired from Herr-Voss Corporation of Calery, Pennsylvania. Ed was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church and of the Ohio Cultural Alliance of Youngstown, Ohio. He was an accomplished musician and loved playing his clarinet and was a part of the Cortland Community Band. Ed is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of thirteen years, Ann L. Thompson of Kinsman; five step children, Cynthia J. Osborne of Kinsman, Janice M. (George) Shay of Braceville, Ohio, Susan L. (Rob) White of Kinsman, Laurie A. Sailer of Kensington, New Hampshire and Daniel G. (Marjorie) Hall of Naples, Florida; nine grandchildren, Jessica, George, Amanda, Thomas, Tim, Hannah, Meghan, Kirsten and Dylan Edward; a great grandson, Clayton; and a sister, Mae Baxter of Kinsman. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Kinsman United Methodist Church, 8362 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio with Pastor Patricia Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 11th from 11:00am until the time of services.
