Champion, Ohio - E. Gordon Stroup, age 96, died at his home on Monday, May 9, 2016. He was born on September 11, 1919 in Warren, Ohio, a son of Jessie (Isles) and Frank Stroup. Mr. Stroup graduated from Champion High School in 1938. He served in the United States Army, in France during World War II, and was awarded a Purple Heart. On December 13, 1941 he married Virginia Mae Sharp. Mr. Stroup worked in construction and excavating for the Stroup Brother’s Construction Company. He was a member of the Warren First Assembly of God. Mr. Stroup could tinker and fix just about anything. He enjoyed playing golf, going fishing and hunting, reading a good book and spending time with his family. Mr. Stroup is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank and Raymond Stroup; and his twin sister, E. Elizabeth "Betty" Fansler. He is survived by his wife of seventy-four years, Virginia Mae Stroup; a daughter, Jacquelyn K. (Robert) Games of Amherst, Ohio; a son, David G. Stroup of Newton Falls, Ohio; four grandchildren, Robert, David, Cassie, Matthew ; four great grandchildren, Abigail, Rose, Mia and Jonathan; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 1:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 16th from 11:00am until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren First Assembly of God or the Warren Public Library.
