Eugene Kirtland "Kirt" Dillon, age 94, died on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He was born October 19, 1924, in Wayne, Ohio, a son of Henry G. and Florence E. (Nims) Dillon. Mr. Dillon was a 1942 graduate of Gustavus High School. Formerly of Jamestown, Pennsylvania, Mr. Dillon served in the United State Navy during World War II on the USS Bennington (as the original crew “plank-owner”) as the ships meteorologist. Using the GI Bill, Mr. Dillon graduated from the Ohio State University’s Animal Husbandry program. Mr. Dillon married Virginia R. Brugler on November 22, 1947. He and his wife went on to own and operate Kirtland Farms Registered Holsteins, first in Austinburg, Ohio, Kinsman, Ohio, Wayne, Ohio and finally in Stoneboro, Pennsylvania, farming for over fifty years. Mr. Dillon was one of the early pioneers of the Ashtabula County Holstein Club as well as the Trumbull and Mercer Counties Holsteins Clubs and exhibited registered Holsteins at the National Holstein shows, having an All American Heifer exhibited by Curtis Candy. He enjoyed his lap dog Mandy, going fishing and driving his pontoon boat. Mr. Dillon attended USS Bennington reunions all over the US from 1989 until 2014. He supported his grandchildren sporting activities and followed the Cleveland Indians & Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Mr. Dillon enjoyed many meals and socializing at the Lil Bit. He was a member of the Jamestown Lions Club and the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club, showing his 1938 John Deere B. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly fifty four years, Virginia R. Dillon, whom died on November 13, 2001, and one brother, Harold G. Dillon, Sr. Mr.Dillon is survived by two daughters, Karen J. (Rick) Cooley of Williamsfield, Ohio, and Janet D. (Warren) Robinson of Syracuse, New York, two sons, Mark K. (Kaye) Dillon of Champion, Ohio and Steven T. (Lynne) Dillon of Williamsfield, Ohio; three brothers, Edward Dillon of San Antonio, Texas, Keith (Sandi) Dillon of Williamsfield, Ohio, and Kaye Dillon of Warren, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Amanda), Jeffrey (Abby), Michael (Angela), Kirtland, Chad, Angela (Dan), Brett, and Rebecca and eleven great grandchildren, Adleigh,Lucas, Aubrey, Dillon, Jared, Teddy, Alek, Bret, Gracie, Owen, and Abel. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 am at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery in Wayne, Ohio. Calling hours will be on Sunday, October 28th from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
