Cortland, Ohio - Ella Ruth Meleski, age 71, of Cortland, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. She passed away peacefully with her husband, Jerry by her side. She was born on October 20, 1942, in Meadville, Pennsylvania a daughter of Della (Walrath) and Charles F. Sparbar. She graduated from Linesville High School in 1960. Ruth married John “Jerry” Meleski, Sr. on June 27, 1964. They were married 50 years and spent most of their married life in Gustavus, Ohio where they raised their family and were active in local churches. Ruth was a homemaker and a devoted volunteer at local schools. She enjoyed singing, writing songs and poems, playing keyboards, country music, reading, gardening, fishing and riding horses and ATV's. Ruth was active in her community as the organizer of a women's volleyball team and member of the Gustavus Garden Club. Though Ruth never achieved her dream of becoming a teacher, she taught adults to read and volunteered regularly at schools with disadvantaged children. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Della Longdue; her brothers John, Fred, Charles, George, Alfred, Henry; and her sister Martha. Ruth is survived by her husband Jerry, Sr., two sons, Jerry (Sheri) Meleski, Jr., and Dan (Michelle) Meleski; seven grandsons, David, Micah, Joshua, John, Mike, Timothy, and Joseph; three sisters, Lola, Jeanie and Alice and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Burial will follow in Pennline Cemetery, Pennline, Pennsylvania. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to New Lyme Baptist Church, 1280 Dodgeville Rd, Rome, OH 44085.
