Eric Warren Metz

Transfer, Pennsylvania – Eric Warren Metz, age 47, died on November 3, 2013, in the Shenango River, having rescued his daughter, and best friend from the water. He was born on October 27, 1966, in Warren, Ohio, a son of Cheryl A. (Manges) and Charles W. Metz. Eric was a 1985 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Having been in Transfer since 2003, Eric was formerly of Greenville, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Hubbard and Niles. Eric served a four year apprenticeship with the Heat & Frost Insulators Local No. 35 of Youngstown and was currently working for the Local No. 3 out of Cleveland, having been in the union since 1987. He was a longtime member of Shiloh Full Gospel Church of Girard, Ohio. Eric enjoyed hiking, canoeing, being outdoors, going to family gatherings and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald Manges and paternal grandparents, Bert and Eulalah. Survivors include his daughter, Alexandra G. Metz of Greenville, Pennsylvania; his parents, Chuck and Cheryl Metz of McDonald, Ohio; two brothers, Shawn C. Metz and Jason E. (Cathryn) Metz both of Kinsman, Ohio, maternal grandmother, Phyllis A. Manges of McDonald, Ohio; his best friend, Victoria L. Metz of Greenville, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 11:00am at the Shiloh Full Gospel Church, 1310 Shannon Road, Girard, Ohio, 44420, with Pastor Nicholas Furrie officiating. Burial will follow in Niles City Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the church and from 10:00am on Saturday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial contributions be made to the church. The family would like to express deep gratitude to all those who came out and help with the rescue and recovery of Eric. He was loved by everyone and will be sadly missed by his family and friends but they feel that "Their Loss IS Heavens' Gain".
