Cherry Valley, Ohio - ETHEL T. SHUKAITIS, age 84, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at her daughter's home in Cherry Valley with her family by her side following a brief illness. She was born on June 23, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Andrew and Mary (Simko) Nevelos. Formerly of Cleveland and a parishoner of St. Benedict's, Mrs. Shukaitis was a longtime resident of Cherry Valley. She was a 1940 graduate of Jane Adams High School of Cleveland. Mrs. Shukaitis was a founding member of the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church of Andover and the Altar and Rosary Society. Proud of her Hungarian heritage, Mrs. Shukaitis was a giving person who offered help to anyone who needed it. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, and sewing. On October 6, 1945 she married George J. Shukaitis. A loving husband for forty-five years, he died on May 20, 1991. Also preceding her in death is a sister Mary Shaw and a granddaughter Kateri Shukaitis-Nugent. Survivors include two sons, Richard A. (Eileen) Shukaitis of Brooklin, Ohio and George Ted (Susan) Shukaitis of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; two daughters, Donna M. (Kevin) Nugent of Cherry Valley and Paula A. Willsey of Mentor, Ohio; eight grandchildren, James, Helen, Ann, Kimberly, Cameron, Maclane, Nikolajus and Emily; and great granddaughter Renee; many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Mary Shukaitis. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Main Street, Andover, Ohio with Rev. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Burial will follow in Cherrry Valley Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Monday, January 8th from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio.
