Eunice M. Smith

Eunice M. Smith, 96 years old, of Wayne, Ohio, died on Monday, October 18, 2004, at her home. Mrs. Smith was born on July 23, 1908, in Colebrook, Ohio, to the late Edmund R. Allen and the late Grace E. (Russell) Allen. A longtime resident of Wayne, Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Wayne High School, a 1931 graduate of Wooster College and attended Library school at both Case Western Reserve and Kent State University. Mrs. Smith taught at Colebrook High School, was the school librarian for East Junior High School in Warren, and for Pymatuning Valley High School in Andover where she retired in 1974 after 18 years of service. She was the oldest living member of the First Congregational Church of Wayne, where she directed the choir for 11 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of the county, state, and national retired teachers associations. She was the treasurer of the Wayne Missionary Society for many years, and was active in many other community affairs. Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling, cooking, music, being surrounded by young people, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She married Fred E. Smith on August 4, 1939, and was preceded in death by him on July 23, 1990. She was also preceded by her parents; her grandson, Gregory A. Smith in 1992; and her son, Gary A. Smith in 1996. She is survived by her granddaughter, Kristine R. (Brian) Placer of Champion, OH; her great grandson, Shane G. Smith; her great granddaughter, Julianne R. Placer; her daughter-in-law, Loretta Smith of Warren, OH; her first cousin, Richard R. Hatton; her caregiver, Philip Parobek; and many other cousins, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2004, at 11:00a.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Burial will follow at Hayes Cemetery in Wayne, Ohio.
