Florence M. Griffin, 84 years old, of Vienna, OH, died on Saturday, November 20, 2004, at her home. Florence was born on September 16, 1920, in Wayne Township, Ohio, to the late Harry Stevens and the late Frances (Sweigert) Stevens. Mrs. Griffin was a 1938 graduate of Gustavus High School. During and after high school she worked many jobs, including making ammunition for Atlas Powder Company at the Ravenna arsenal during the war to earn the money to put herself through nurse's training. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1945, where she worked as a night supervisor until 1953. She continued to work part time through the years at Green Cross Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and retired from Hillside Hospital in 1982. Mrs. Griffin married Wade H. Griffin on June 28, 1952, and helped operate Griffin Mills and Heritage Fence with her husband. He passed away on November 29, 1973. Also preceding her in death are her parents; two infant sisters, Alice and Margarette Stevens; and a brother, Tim Stevens. Mrs. Griffin was a long time member of the Vienna Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and she was also an avid NBA Basketball fan. She is survived by her son, Daniel Griffin and his wife, Dolores, of Vienna, OH; her daughter, Myra Saylor and her husband, William, of Vienna, OH; her son, David Griffin and his wife, Michelle, of Vienna, OH; three grandsons of Vienna, OH; and brother, Frederick Stevens and his wife, Edna, of Farmdale, OH. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at 11:00a.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with the Reverend Albert Shakley officiating. Burial will follow in Dugan Cemetery in Fowler, Ohio. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, from 6-8p.m. and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
