Johnston, Ohio - Florence A. Jewett, age 98, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 23, 1912 in Johnston, Ohio, the daughter of Pansy Veral (Pierce) and John Franklin Lucas. Mrs. Jewett was a 1930 graduate of Gustavus High School. In 1933 she moved to Indiana and worked for Muncie Telephone Company until she returned to Johnston in 1935. She worked for the Warren Telephone Company for over twenty-five years until she retired in 1977. On November 30, 1935 she married Frederick J. Jewett. Mrs. Jewett was a member of the Johnston Federated United Methodist Church since 1921. She was also a member of the Pioneer Telephone Operators of America; Past President of the Trumbull County Parent & Teacher Association; she served as secretary of the North-East Division PTA Council as well as the State and National level of PTA and she was a 4-H leader where she also served as County Assistant 4-H Agent for Trumbull County. Mrs. Jewett never missed an opportunity to vote since it became her right and was an advocate for people to get out and vote. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing crafts and doing genealogy and taught piano to many people in her area. Mrs. Jewett is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly sixty years, Frederick J. Jewett; a son, James N. Jewett and a brother, Paul "Woody" Lucas. Survivors include a daughter, Kimberlin S. Conley of Johnston, Ohio; a son F. John (Janet) Jewett of Orangeville, Ohio; a brother, William Lucas of Lakeview, Michigan; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a great great grandson. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Noon at Johnston Federated United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron McIlvaine officiating. Calling will be held on Friday, May 20th from 11:00am until the time of services. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Johnston Federated UMC.
