Florence Kathryn Carpenter Porch

Hartford, Ohio - Florence Kathryn (Carpenter) Porch, age 94, died at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. She was born on June 2, 1923 in Baggley, Pennsylvania, the second child of Margaret (Tumilty) and Scott Carpenter. Mrs. Porch was a 1941 graduate of Hurst High School of Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. She worked as a secretary at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. On October 12, 1944 she married Leon Carlisle Porch. Her early married life was spent in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania where she assisted her husband, and his brother Millard Porch, in operating the J. C. Moore Supply Company. It was there that she was active in the Drama Club, the Music Club, the Bridge Club and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir. In retirement she lived in Venice, Florida where she sang in the Venice Chapter of a Sweet Adeline chorus. For the last thirteen years Mrs. Porch resided in Hartford, Ohio. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of seventy-one years, Leon Carlisle Porch, and a sister, Betty Struble. Survivors include her five daughters; Cassandra L. Murray of Venice, Florida, Betsy A. Edgar of Hartford, Ohio, Kathryn S. (Ted) Price of Katy, Texas, Linnea (Michael) Anderson of Louisburg, North Carolina and Lisa (Audrey J. Smith) C. Porch of Ambler, Pennsylvania; a sister, Nancy Armstrong of Poland, Ohio; two brothers, Donald Carpenter of Greenville, Pennsylvania and James Carpenter of Columbus, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Michael, Scott, Jennifer, Ben, Beth, Jonathan, Matthew, and Ryan; and eight great grandchildren, Karina, Jasmine, Mackenzie, Liam, Tristan, Josie, Kahylee, and Adam. A memorial service to celebrate the lives of both Leon and Flo will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 6:00PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Burial will be in the Lutheran Church Cemetery of Trauger, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Living Hospice, 1001 Kingsmill Parkway, Columbus, Ohio 43229.
