Frances T. Reed

West Salem Township, PA - Frances Teresa Reed, age 90, died on Sunday, December 16, 2012. She was born on November 17, 1922 in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of Christina (Perci) and John Steger. She graduated from school in Akron and in 1975 she graduated from Thiel College with a degree in Political Science. On December 28, 1942 she married Glendon Leroy Reed, Sr, he died in Nov. 2009. Together they farmed and Mrs. Reed managed all the farms books and workings. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenville, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Reed was active in the Republican Woman of Mercer County and served as President. She also served as President of the Hermitage branch of the American Cancer Society where she well known for her fund raising. Mrs. Reed was a member of the Kinsman Tourist Club and enjoyed sewing and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Madeline Linn and Elizabeth Curtis and a brother, Max Steger. Survivors include four daughters, Chris B. (John) Cancro of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Kathleen B. Snodgrass of Andover, Ohio, Carolynn T. (Alan) Knowles of London, Ohio and Rosemary T. Schneider of Pickerington, Ohio; two sons, Glendon L. Reed, Jr. of Plano, Texas, and John A. Reed of Greenville, Pennsylvania; a sister, Anna Marie Munka of Akron, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 1:00PM at St. Michael Catholic Church 85 North High Street, Greenville, PA with Rev. Chris M. Hamlett officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 21st from 4:00PM until 7:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org/donate. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
