Frank L. Root

Frank L. Root, age 81, of Cortland, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016. He was born March 6, 1934, in Williamsfield, OH, the son of the late Gerald David Root and Nellie Irene (Barrett) Root. A former long time Kinsman resident, Frank attended Gustavus and Warren City Schools. He worked as a body and paint specialist for Carl Boyd in Kinsman, Payne's in Cortland, and retired in 1992 from Wollam Chevrolet in Cortland. He was a former member of the Champion Christian Church and assisted with the Champion Rotary Club. Frank enjoyed country music, calling square dances, bowling, pitching horseshoes, animals, old cars, and sports. He was a loyal Cleveland Indians and Browns fan all of his life. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley F. Root, whom he married July 18, 1962; two children, Denise (Leigh) Collins of Hartford, OH, and James Betts of Southington, OH; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, June, Alice, Lois, and Helen. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, OH. A private burial will take place in Kinsman Cemetery.
