Fred W. "Doc" Emrick

VERNON — Fred W. “Doc” Emrick, 90, of Vernon Township, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at his home. He was born May 5, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of William C. and Elizabeth K. Hassler Emrick. A long time resident of Vernon Township, Mr. Emrick worked in construction in Vernon and surrounding areas of Ohio. He also built houses in Pittsburgh for many years with his father and brother, as well as operating the family farm. Following that, he was employed as a mechanic for Niles Fuel & Supply Co. in Niles for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a longtime member of the Vernon United Methodist Church and a member of the Five Points Model A Club. Mr. Emrick enjoyed rebuilding Model A cars, woodworking, yardwork and camping. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen M. Gerger Emrick, whom he married July 30, 1951. He is also survived by his daughter, Donna (Robert) Ross; his three sons, Walter (Patricia) Emrick, Richard (Marilyn) Emrick and Ronald (Darlene) Emrick, all of Vernon; eight grandchildren, Robert (Dawn) Ross, Benjamin (Trina) Ross, Brian Emrick, Bonnie (Jeff) Harrell, Jennifer (Mark) Morocco, Nicholas Emrick, Amber (Jamison) Conley and Katie Starling; 12 great-grandchildren, Elisha, Mathew, Josh, Brandi, Nathan, Jack, Henry, Ethan, Abigayle, Dayton, Camden and Brenden; and his sister, Pearl Henderson of Clearwater, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William C. Emrick Jr.; and five sisters. He also leaves behind a friend in everyone he met; and was also known as “Doc” to all. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Johnston Cemetery.
