Friederike Koren

Mecca, Ohio - Friederike "Frieda" Koren, age 78, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at her home, with her family by her side, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on October 4, 1928 in Slovenia. Raised in Austria, Mrs. Koren came to the United States in 1957. Living in Cleveland briefly, she moved to Eastlake, Ohio, residing there for over forty-six years before moving to Mecca, in 2003. Mrs. Koren was employed for over twelve years at Richmond Brothers of Cleveland. She was a seamstress for General Motors of Euclid, Ohio, where she retired in 1991. Mrs. Koren had a passion for sewing, gardening, baking, reading, traveling, dancing, and cooking for her family and friends. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anton Bedina and Anna (Wagner) Schmidt. Survivors include a daughter, Sonja E. and husband John White of Johnston, Ohio; two grandsons, Adam and wife Melissa White of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Eric White of Johnston, Ohio; two great grandsons, Michael and Maurice White; a sister, Karla Schmidt of Switzerland; a brother, Toni Bedina of Slovenia; and surrogate granddaughter, Vania Miekeley and her son Francis of Kinsman, Ohio. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 6:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. Mark Biel officiating.
