Vernon, Ohio - Furello Meloni, age 90, died on Sunday, September 28, 2008. He was born on December 7, 1917, in Republic, Pennsylvania, the son of Vincenzo and Martina (Ferdenelli) Meloni. Sharing time between Scottsdale, Arizona and Vernon, Ohio, Mr. Meloni attended Gustavus Schools. Mr. Meloni was employed with Republic Steel for seven years. He then moved his family to Arizona, returning to this area in 1947. He owned and operated both Meloni's Market and Meloni's Meat Packing in Vernon, Ohio, until his retirement in 1972. Mr. Meloni then opened and operated Vernon Sohio Gas Station until 1978. He was a member of the Ideal Grocers Association. Mr. Meloni was an avid bowler and fisherman, he enjoyed softball, basketball and bingo. He will be missed by his loving dog Jeanie. Mr. Meloni is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Sabatino (Sam), Dante (Dan), Fortino (Bud) and Guillianni Meloni; and a grandson Mark E. Meloni. Survivors include a son, Edward B. (Jane) Meloni of Johnston, Ohio; two daughters, Sandra J. Hightree of Mesa, Arizona and Sylvia J. Moreland of Apache Junction, Arizona; longtime loving companion, Delores Bradley; seven grandchildren, Charlotte, Danny, Dale, Daryl, Dawn, Nick and Diana; 11 great grandchildren and a great great grandson. Funeral services will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio, 44512.
