G. Alfred Mathews, age 90, 6790 Lakeview Drive, Kinsman, Ohio, died on August 1, 2005. He was born on April 29, 1915 in Kinsman, to Ross V. and Eva (Chapman) Mathews. A lifelong resident of Kinsman, Mr. Mathews was a 1935 graduate of Kinsman High School. Mr. Mathews graduated from the Anderson Airplane School in Nashville, Tenn. He served in the United States Army Airforce during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in England, with the Strategical Air Command of the 8th Airforce. Mr. Mathews worked for Copperweld Steel of Warren, for 30 years, retiring in 1981. In his retirement, Mr. Mathews enjoyed volunteering at Greenville Hospital, playing golf at Bronzwood golf course, where he was a member, and doing woodworking. Mr. Mathews was a member of the Harry Lees Post #506 American Legion, and of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church where he served as Trustee and Deacon. He is a descendent of William Mathews, the first deacon of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church. Mr. Mathews dearly loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Betts) Mathews, whom he married on January 31, 1941, a son A. Douglas (Sandra) Mathews of Cleveland Heights, 5 grandchildren, Cherise Zuppke Lambert, Christina Zuppke Schwind, Kristen Mathews Fujimura, Katy Mathews, Kelly Mathews Prebish, 7 great grandchidren, Taylor, Thomas Jr., and Carter Prebish, Alexandra, and Anna Schwin
