GARDA T. LONG, age 82, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at Geneva Medical Center in Geneva, Ohio. She was born August 11, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Francis and Susan (Smithson) Delaney. A former long time Andover resident, Mrs. Long had lived in North Carolina for the past eight months. She was a high school graduate of St. Michael's School in Greenville, PA, and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, where she held office for many years in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Mission Society; and Cursillo, making her Cursillo in Ashtabula. She taught CCD and was CCD Principal for many years; and served on parish council as Christian Formation Chairperson. Mrs. Long served Our Lady of Victory Church as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist; and was the first one commissioned at the church for this ministry. She served on the Board of Catholic Charities; and the Election Board at the polling booths for many years. She also was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxilliary. Mrs. Long and her husband owned Long's Beverage on the Square in Andover for many years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, and traveling to see her family and friends. Mrs. Long married William H. Long on September 27, 1948; and he died March 13, 1997. Also preceding her in death are her parents; and one brother, Roland Delaney. She is survived by three daughters, Margaret (Dennis) McKenzie, of Naples, FL, Deborah Guiffrida, of Jamestown, NY, and Sharon (Jack) Thompson, of Madison, OH, one son, William P. (Diana) Long, of Moyock,NC; nine grandchildren, R.J. Dresnek, Joey, Matt, and Shari Guiffrida, Candace and Chrissy Long, and Kate, Abbie, and Aidan Thompson; five great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Catherine Dambaucher, of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, S. Main St., Andover, OH, with Rev. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Following a luncheon, burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery, Greenville, PA. Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 29th from 6 to 8 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH.
