Garth A. Bonar, age 73, of Vernon township, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 2, 2005, surrounded by his family, at the Cleveland Clinic from complications of surgery performed Nov. 7, 2005. He was born March 23,1932 in Windham, Ohio, to Alvin and Floy (Butler) Bonar. A long time resident of Vernon township, Mr. Bonar retired from Youngstown Sheet & Tube after thirty years. He was a Vernon township trustee for thirteen years, and owner of Bonar Trucking and Excavating. Mr. Bonar was a member of the Vernon United Methodist Church, where he was very active on many committees. He served as Past Master of Gustavus #442 Masonic Lodge and Past High Priest of Kinsman Chapter #212. Mr. Bonar was very proud of his family, and was known as "Opa" to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a very giving man, a friend to everyone who knew him, and he walked with joy. Mr. Bonar is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen E. (Barto) Bonar of Vernon; two daughters, Karen (Dan) Cico of Middlefield, OH, and Kathy (William) McKinely of Canton, OH; three sons, Garth (Wendy) Bonar, Jr. of Orangeville,OH, Robert Bonar of Hartford,OH, and David (Sue) Bonar of Hartford, OH; two brothers, Dale (Kitty) Bonar of Gustavus township, OH, and Ronald (Mary) Bonar of Ft. Wayne, IN; one sister in law, Julie Bonar of Warren; 9 Grandchildren, Tammie (Roger) Weber, Christopher and Katrina Cico, Jodi (Tim) Houser, Jason (Aimee) Bonar, Kristin (Tony) Steiner, Bill (Renee) McKinley, and Samantha and Sarah Bonar; and 10 great grandchildren, Cory, Kayla, and Hannah Weber, Jacob and Zachary Cico, Curtis and Tanner Houser, Jorja Bonar, and Anthony and Joseph Steiner. He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Benjamin Cico; and a brother, Clyde Bonar. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Vernon United Methodist Church, 6123 St. Rt. 7, Vernon township, OH, with Rev. Erwin Urschitz and Pastor Karen Cico officiating. Burial will follow in West View Cemetery in Vernon. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, beginning with Masonic Lodge services at 6 P.M. until 9 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,Ohio.
