Gene E. Ward, age 87, of Linesville, PA, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at Meadville Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1921, in Sebring, OH, the son of Herman H. and Ethel E. (Steward) Ward. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Ward was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Westinghouse after many years of service as a crane operator. Over the years, Mr. Ward also drove truck and taxi; and repaired electronics and machinery. He was a member of the Pymatuning Community Church in Andover, where he served and was loved as a greeter for many years. His hobbies included working with and repairing cameras, cb and ham radios, and guns; and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Ward also had his private pilot license and enjoyed his many flights. Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Esther L. (Clemson) Ward, whom he married February 16,1944, of Linesville, PA; his daughter, Mary Kennedy of Reistertown, MD, daughter, Deborah Long of Linesville, PA, son, Don Ward of Linesville, PA, daughter, Marilyn (Robert) Carner of Harlem GA; his brother, Richard "Butch" (Vee) Ward of Ravenna,OH; his sixteen grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Virginia Clemson, Deloris Clemson, and Rose Ward; and two brothers, John and Norman Ward. A memorial service will be on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 5:00 P.M. at the Pymatuning Community Church, 6459 St. Rt. 7, Andover, OH, with Pastor Steven Mickels officiating.
