Gerald Dale Burns

Gerald Dale Burns,Sr., age 87, of Andover, Ohio, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren,Ohio. He was born April 22, 1922, in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of Clyde S. and Bertha M. (Cobb) Burns. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Burns was employed by General Electric in Andover, retiring in 1984 after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines. He was an active member of the Andover Christian Church; a member of the Grange and the Laker Ruritans. Mr. Burns married Zora J. (Tallman) Burns on January 21, 1944, and she died Nov. 12, 1998. Also preceding him in death in 2008 was his second wife, Lois M. (Lawyer) Burns, whom he married May 26, 2001; a sister, Beverly Rogers; and a brother, Blaine Burns. He is survived by his daughter, Gloria (Leonard) Murphy of Warren,Ohio; his three sons, Gerald D. (Linda) Burns, Jr. of Hubbard, OH, Bradley C. (Diana) Burns of Rock Hill, SC, and Robert D. (Kym) Burns of Manassas, VA; Grandchildren, Neal, Keith, Kevin, Timothy, Tina, Vickie, Teresa, Caleb, Carey, Heidi, Sarah, Jacob, Michael, Ashley, Martin, Maureen, and Brian; 17 Great Grandchildren;five step children, Charles (Cindy) Hawkins,Jr. of Andover, Gladys (Gary) Fumich of Shalersville, OH, Donald (Kathie) Hawkins of Oak Harbor, OH, Douglas (Jamie) Hawkins of Lakeville, OH, and David (Liz) Hawkins of Loudenville, OH; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren;one brother, Norman K. (Jean) Burns of Ashtabula, OH; his sister-in-law, Janet Burns of Thompson, OH; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Andover Christian Church, Stillman Ave., Andover, Ohio, with Pastor Robert Gears officiating. Burial will follow in West Andover Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 1st from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Andover Christian Church.
