Gertrude E. Johns

Gertrude E. Johns, 80 yrs old, died on Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Decedent's Residence in Greene Twp, Ohio. Mrs. Johns was born in West Richfield, Ohio, on September 12, 1923, to the late Carol (Chapman) Horn and the late Earl Horn. Mrs. Johns worked at the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. until her marriage to Cornealious G. Johns on October 5, 1947. Later in life she was a school secretary for the Akron Public Schools for 18 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Akron, and she volunteered at the Akron Children's Hospital. Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her husband and her sons, Darrell and Dennis Johns. She enjoyed crocketing, sewing, and gardening. She always had her hat in her hand and enjoyed life to the fullest. She is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn Hauser of Andover, OH; and Elaine Thompson of Akron, OH; her two sisters, Gladys Renchler of Shelby, OH; and Eleanor Shoemaker of Beth, OH; her two brothers, Earl "Bud" Horn of Fort Myers, FL; and Herbert Horn of Bath, OH; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at 1:00pm at her daughter, Marilyn's home. Burial of cremated remains will take place in Hayes Cemetery, Wayne Twp, Ohio. Baumgardner Funeral Home in Andover is handling all the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
