Akron, Ohio – Gladys Evelyn Trosper, age 86, died peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Rockynol Retirement Community, with her family by her side. She was born on October 11, 1927, in Cortland, Ohio, the daughter of Ruby Marie (Cozad) and Thomas Boone Elston. A longtime Kinsman resident, Gladys moved to Akron in 2007 to be near her family. Valedictorian of her 1945 graduating class of Johnston High School, she attended Miami University for two years, received a scholarship from State Library of Ohio and graduated from Marshall University in 1978. On September 3, 1948 she married Leland Eugene Trosper. Gladys served in the United State Navy as a WAVE Reserve from 1950 until 1954. She was a secretary for the former Glauber Brass Manufacturing Company of Kinsman, Ohio, served as a Librarian at Kinsman Free Public Library for nineteen years and was the Librarian/Secretary for Trumbull County Children’s Services in Warren, Ohio, for six years retiring in 1987. Gladys was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church for over fifty-five years and a eighty-one year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, doing family genealogy, traveling, camping and spending time with friends and neighbors. Her husband, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-four years and love of her life, Leland E. Trosper and a brother, Roger E. Elston. Survivors include a son, Greig A. and wife Sally Trosper of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Tonnie Lee and husband Dana Spratt of Burlington, Massachusetts, and Barbara T. Wright of Akron, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Meghan, Tonnie, Rebecca, Trevor, Ryan and Shane and four great grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Caitlin and Ayden. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. David McKinnon officiating. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Saturday from Noon until the service at 1:00pm.
