Helen Potter Belz, 91, passed away quietly in her sleep on May 13, 2008 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, Ohio. Born Helen Louise Brockway, March 1, 1917 in Williamsfield, Ohio she was the daughter of Lewis and Anna Brockway. Helen graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1935 and Spencerian Business School in Cleveland in 1937. She worked at the law firm Irving, Tincher and Harris following graduation. Helen married Charles Weymouth Potter, August 17th, 1940 at Trinity Cathedral, Cleveland, Ohio. They were married for 31 years and resided in Williamsfield on the family farm. They had three children, Stephen Lewis, Louise Bernice and Nancy Anne. Helen later worked as newspaper reporter and photographer for the Ashtabula Star Beacon, as Clerk for Williamsfield Township, and at the Williamsfield Post Office. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Andover and was active in The Study Club for over 25 years, the American Legion Auxiliary and many other church and community organizations. She enjoyed her family, music, painting and travel. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Potter, her second husband Robert Belz, her son Stephen Lewis Potter, her daughter Louise Bernice McConnell, and her sister Vera Jeanette Smith. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Potter Kirschner of Canaan, New York, her sister, Norma Armstrong of Bieber, California, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH, with Rev. Peter Elencovf officiating. Burial will follow in West Williamsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
