Helen M. Roberts

Andover, Ohio - Helen M. Roberts, age 97, died on January 11, 2009, in Andover, Ohio. She was born on November 6, 1911, in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of the late Calvin P. and Rhoda (Boots) McCombs. Mrs. Roberts was a 1929 graduate of Andover High School. She worked at the Andover Appliance Center when it first opened, cleaned offices for many local businesses and was employed at the Andover Dry Cleaners for many years. Mrs. Roberts did sewing and mending for numerous local people up until 2005. She was a member of the Andover Christian Church for over forty-six years. Mrs. Roberts was the 2005 recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. She collected salt and pepper shakers and enjoyed sewing. On November 19, 1939, she married Espy C. Roberts. He died on May 10, 1963. She is preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Shellito; two brothers, John and Paul McCombs; a step-daughter, Helen Roberts Rechedy and a step grandson, John Roberts. Survivors include a son, David E. (Jennifer) Roberts of Andover, Ohio; a step-daughter, Alnora McFadden of Wooster, Ohio and a step-son, Dr. B.J. (Mid) Roberts of Findley, Ohio; two granddaughters, Christy and Amanda Roberts; two great grandchildren, Austin and Hayley Roberts; a sister, Hazel Jordan of Andover, Ohio; eight step-grandchildren and many step great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00am at Andover Christian Church, Stillman Ave., Andover, Ohio, with Rev. Robert Gears officiating. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2008, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the church and from 10:00am on Thursday until the time of services.
