Henry C. Garvey, age 90, of Naples, FL, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, in Naples. He was born July 17, 1920, in Andover, Ohio, the son of Albert and Mabel (Bubb) Garvey. Formerly of Andover, Ohio, Mr. Garvey had lived in Naples since 1992. He was employed by Nationwide Insurance in Conneaut,OH, for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Coast Guard Artillery during World War II. He served four years, stationed in the Phillipines and Manilla and then stateside patrolling the San Francisco harbor. Mr. Garvey was a member of the North Naples United Methodist Church in Naples, FL; the Percy D. Hyatt Post #226 American Legion and the VFW. He also was a member of the Northeastern Ohio Officials Association and the Northeastern Ohio Hall of Fame as a basketball Referee. Mr. Garvey was first licensed as an official in 1952. He was an official for wrestling, baseball, basketball and football; and he served as the Rules Interpreter for Northeastern Ohio Football Officials Association from 1962 to 1992. He also was Secretary for the Northeastern Ohio Football Officials Association. Mr. Garvey was also a coach for the Orioles, a Pony League baseball team, for many years; and was a greatly esteemed and winning coach. He was an excellent golfer and competed in many golf tournaments with his identical twin brother, Harry George Harvey. He loved all sports. After he retired, Mr. Garvey was employed at the Quail Village Golf Course. He worked there until he was 88 years old. He was also a spotter for the Naples High School football team for many years. He was an avid fan of Naples High sports. Mr. Garvey is survived by his wife, Louise E. (Babcock) Garvey, whom he married Feb. 1, 1945, of Naples, FL; four daughters, Janice (Robert) McCarthy of Little Falls, MN; Gloria (David) Flick of Naples, FL; Mary Jane (Doug) Humphrey of Naples, FL and Julie (Kevin) Baldwin of Odessa, FL; 11 Grandchildren; and 4 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents;one son, Jeffrey Charles Garvey; his twin brother, Harry, and brothers, Ralph and Walter; infant brother, Albert; and sister, Viola. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the North Naples United Methodist Church on Goodlette with a reception to follow in Founders Hall. Graveside services will be held on Wed., August 18, 2010, at 3:00 P.M. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Andover, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry C.
