Gustavus, Ohio - Henry Louis Lipps, age 83, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was born on December 19, 1940, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Elvira Louise (Barlow) and Clifton Louis Lipps.
Hank was a 1958 graduate of Gustavus High School and a lifelong Gustavus resident. On January 7, 1962, he married Linda Rae Littler.
He enjoyed a variety of occupations incorporating farming and driving. In early years he was a dairy farmer, owning & operating Eagle View Farm. Hank began working in agricultural chemical sales for Central Soya in Indiana and Central Chemical in Andover. He also had many adventures driving bus for Anderson Coach & Travel of Greenville, Penn. Hank owned and operated his own truck and drove for several local freight companies for a period of time. He retired from Roadway Express achieving over one million safe driving miles. Even after retirement he continued to drive for several local companies, keeping his CDL skills sharp.
Hank was a lifelong member of the Gustavus Federated Church. He also was a long time member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club of Wayne, serving as the club President several years. Hank was a member of the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, and the Historical Societies of Gustavus, Wayne, and Kinsman. He was a Civil War historian, and enjoyed assisting in restoration of antique farm equipment.
Hank’s farm was in the unique position to be along the railway and was selected to be a part of Good Morning American Whistle Stop Tour as a part of John McCain’s Presidential campaign in 2008, with Country Singer Brad Paisley joining the celebration on the farm.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Calvin C. Lipps; his grandson, Jeremy Ryan Brainard; and his sister, Joyce E. Jones. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Linda R. Lipps of Gustavus, Ohio; two children, Dorraine K. (Bruce) Brainard of Gustavus, Ohio and Bradley L. Lipps of Sharon, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Lindsay (Keshav), and Kyle; great-grandson, Elliot; two sisters, Beverly J. Hanson of Andover, Ohio, and Darlene I. Secich or Port Arkansas, Texas; and brother, John C. Lipps of Gustavus, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Pastor Mary Ann Rufener officiating. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 11th from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
