Herbert G. "Jake" McGrath

Vernon, Ohio - Herbert G. "Jake" McGrath, Sr., age 78, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 30, 2008. He was born on April 8, 1930, in Orangeville, Ohio, the son of Max J. McGrath and Elizabeth E. (Mowry) Sutton. Mr. McGrath was a 1948 graduate of Hartford High School. He was a millwright for the Local 1871 Millwright and Pile Drivers and was formerly a carpenter for the Local 171 Carpenter's Union. He attended the Burghill Baptist Church. Mr. McGrath was a member of the NRA, the Lakeview Coon Hunters Club and the Hartford Sportsman Club. He was an instructor for the Ohio State Trapping Association and the Ohio Hunting Safety Association. Mr. McGrath enjoyed hunting, trapping, gardening, playing Euchre and was a part time farmer. On December 19, 1992 he married Kathleen M. (Hatton) Fenn. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son David Alan McGrath; two sisters, Audene Miller and Dorothy Ondrezek; and two brothers, Max J. McGrath, Jr. and John Wade McGrath, Sr. Survivors include his wife Kay H. McGrath of Vernon, Ohio; two sons, Herbert G. (Kathleen) McGrath, Jr of South Charleston, Ohio and James P. (Tillie) McGrath of Vernon, Ohio; two stepsons, Steven M. (Melinda) Fenn of Greenville, Pennsylvania and Christopher E. (Amy) Fenn of Dover, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Marian (Pete) Waliff of Greenville, Pennsylvania, Emily "Lu" (Earle) Bogacki of Maysville, Pennsylvania and June (Lloyd) Hoffman of Greenville, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Richard (Anna) McGrath of Warren, Ohio and Charles (Joyce) McGrath of Frisco, Texas; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Matthew, Amanda, Joseph, Nicole and Kelly. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral Home 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. James Stewart and David Seidle officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
