Herman A. "Bud" Eckard, age 80, went to be with our Lord on Monday, April 2, 2012. He was born on September 28, 1931, in Hickory, North Carolina, a son of the late John and Beatrice (Beard) Eckard. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and retired after 20 years of service. He was stationed in Japan, Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and several bases in the United States. Upon retiring from the Air Force he worked at Sawhill Tube, in plant protection, retiring in 1995. Bud was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Hickory, North Carolina, and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Reynolds VFW Post #7599, the Harry Lees American Legion Post # 506 of Kinsman and the Rod & Gun Club of Vienna. Bud enjoyed all sports, football, which he played in his younger days, basketball, and was a big fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and NASCAR racing. His favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, reading, cooking, and gardening. It was said he had a green thumb and could grow anything. He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Joyce Anne (Lamson) Eckard of Cortland; his children Mark (Gwen) Eckard, Sr. of Hubbard,Ohio, Terry (Cindy) Eckard of Greenville, Pennsylvania, Shelly Brown of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Carla (Frank) Jovenal of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, and Joni Lapcevich of Hermitage, Pennsylvania; step Children, Tim (Toni) Kistler of Anaheim, California Tammy (Ronald) Mullett of Kinsman, Ohio, and Darla (David) Allen of Hartford, Ohio; a sister, Carolyn (H.L.) Duncan of Hickory, North Carolina. He was very proud of the achievements his children, eleven grandchildren, and four soon to be five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 10:00 AM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio. Bud's final resting place will be Kinsman Cemetery. Full military honors will be held at the cemetery following the funeral service. Calling hours will be on Friday, April 6th from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at the funeral home.
