Cortland, Ohio - Hope H. Root, age 85, of Cortland, Ohio, died on Monday, May 3, 2010, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Warren, Ohio. She was born on January 8, 1925, in Vernon, Ohio, the daughter of the late Helen (Burr) and Ray Hannawalt. A longtime Kinsman resident, Mrs. Root has resided in Cortland for the past three years. Mrs. Root was a 1943 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. She was employed by the Japco Paint Company and the former Blazon Toy Company both of Jamestown, Pennsylvania. She also was employed by the A. G. Birrell Company of Kinsman and the Mahoning Bank which she retired from 1987. Mrs. Root was a longtime member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Dorcas Circle. She was she was a member of the Kinsman Tourist Club, the Social Arts Club and the Women of the Moose Club No. 276 in Greenville, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Root enjoyed reading and gardening. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Richard A. Root, whom she married on May 24, 1944. He died on September 1, 2009. Also preceding her in death is her brother, Gene Hannawalt. Survivors include two daughters, Micki Semroc of Cortland, Ohio and Tracey (David) Boggio of Lake Milton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Toby and Bambi Semroc, and Jennifer Lakovich, and Jessica Boggio; and two great grandchildren, Ian and Elsa Semroc; two sisters, Joanne Stroup of Cortland, Ohio and Kay (Roger) Wilson of Vienna, Ohio, and a brother, Wayne (Carol) Hannawalt of Middletown, Pennsylvania. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Pastor David Vensel officiating. Private burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
